SUNSMART SAFETY

In 1999, our school launched a revised Sunsmart Strategy. A Sunsmart school is one that has a comprehensive sun protection policy with total school community support. The policy outlines expectations for curriculum, behaviours and the school environment. Hats and sunscreen are important components.

HATS

Children are required to wear hats before school, during morning tea and lunch breaks, on excursions and other organised activities outside the classroom. The children understand that if a hat is not worn, they are required to play in a covered area. This is done in an attempt to protect children from overexposure to the sun. Constant reference to the dangers of overexposure to the sun are made, particularly in the summer months. School hats are available from the Uniform Shop. Sunscreen is available in all classrooms for student use.
